CHANDIGARH, JANUARY 10:
The Punjab Government in pursuance of the instruction of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has decided to observe Road Safety week from 11 to 17 January, 2020.
Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that instruction in this regards have also been issued to all the Deputy Commissioners to observe the Road Safety Week and to ensure the participation of all the concerned agencies like Police, Health, Information and Publicity, Education, PWD B & R and NGOs.
He said that at the district level, various kind of events and functions would be organized like Road Shows, March by Students, Paining Contests, Eye Checkup of Drivers, Holding Seminars through NGO’s and Short Messages through FM Radios.
The spokesperson further said that it is matter of great concern that over 1.50 lakh people lose their lives every year in India due to road accidents and many more suffer debilitating injuries. This causes immense economic hardship and emotional trauma to the affected families. He said that road safety week is observed every year across all the states of India to sensitise all the stakeholders on safer road mobility.
