Rajouri admin initiates survey to collect data of transgender population

RAJOURI, JULY 06: To enable transgender to live a dignified life in the society, the District Administration Rajouri under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh K Shavan has started the survey for the collection of data about the population of this gender.

Pertinently, a deputation of the transgender met the Deputy Commissioner and apprised him of several issues and demands about their day to day life and sought the redress of the same.

The Deputy Commissioner gave a patient hearing to the representatives of the transgender and noted all the issues confronting them in day to day life plus the social and economic issues related to them. He also enquired about their specific problems during the covid period.

The Deputy Commissioner ensured them that the District Administration Rajouri is committed to ensure the wellbeing of the transgender community in the district, and all their genuine concerns would be redressed in a phased manner.

Soon after meeting the deputation, the Deputy Commissioner passed instructions to the concerned authorities to initiate the process of collecting data of the transgender in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner said that there is a need to recognise the rights of transgender as a separate category and to extend appropriate support to enable them to lead a dignified life.

“The data collected in the district will help the District Administration to take all possible measures for the wellbeing and uplift of the transgender in the society so that they don’t face any inconveniences and live a normal life”, the Deputy Commissioner added.
