On Java Island, three students were found to be sitting across a street and studying. When inquired, the reporters found out that the kids were sitting on the street because that is the only place where the mobiles caught a network and they could connect online for their daily classes. Indonesia had shut down colleges and universities to contain the spread of novel Coronavirus.
This problem is being faced by plenty of students living in Indonesia. The government has implemented several measures to allow education to penetrate to grassroot levels. However, when it comes to technology, the government is not equally advanced. The network and communication network of Indonesia has been extremely backward. This in turn is causing a problem to several students who have no access to network at their homes located in remote places.
The reporters came to know that the situation in North Sumatra was worse as the students had to climb the trees in search of signals. The students are in search of strong signals in order to complete their assignments which is not possible with a poor network.
Global experts fear that the children of Indonesia might lack behind in studies if such a situation would continue to persist. Throughout the world every government is making an effort to provide education to all the children of their country but it seems unlikely for children of Indonesia to succeed with such network problems.
A new academic session began in July but communities are not allowing reopening of schools due to fear of infection. As these students form only a fraction of the students, not much heed is paid to them. These children are already lacking general progress and on top of it now their education would suffer too.
