Chandigarh, March 7 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today appealed to chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to fulfill the remaining 15.4 per cent poll promises made to the people of Punjab in tomorrow’s budget presentation itself and take a well deserved rest.

Reacting to the chief minister’s statement that his government had fulfilled 84.6 per cent of the promises made in the party’s election manifesto, former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said fulfilling the remaining 15.4 per cent promises should be child’s play now. “You have as per your own self acclaimed ‘miyan mithu’ statement admitted to have done so much and that too without any help from Prashant Kishore. Surely with a little nudge from Kishore you can fulfill the 15.4 per cent remaining promises listed below in tomorrow’s budget itself”.

Dr Cheema said the 15.4 per cent promises which should be fulfilled tomorrow include decision to release Rs 90,000 crore to ensure a complete farm loan waiver as promised by the chief minister on the holy Gutka Sahib and the Dasam Pitah. He said similarly the promise of providing Rs 10 lakh compensation and a government job to all farmer suicide victim families also awaited fulfillment.

Dr Cheema said besides this the Congress government should also immediately disburse Rs 2,500 per month unemployment allowance promised to youth along with four years arrears and appointment letters should be issued to one unemployed youth in each household. He said similarly the promised enhanced old age pension of Rs 2,500 per month should also be released along with arrears to all the beneficiaries. He said promised Shagun benefits of Rs 51,000 should also be released to all eligible beneficiaries in a similar fashion. Contractual State government employees should be regularized tomorrow and the sixth Pay Commission report should be finalized and implemented.

The SAD leader said the promise of ensuring tea leaves and sugar for all disadvantaged sections also remained among the 15.4 per cent promises which lay unfulfilled. “So do houses for houseless”. He said eradication of drugs which was to be done in four weeks was not done in four years. “In fact now we are witnessing house delivery of drugs. This promise should also be kept”.

Dr Cheema said the SAD was hopeful that all these remaining 15.4 per cent remaining promises would be fulfilled in the budget tomorrow so that the chief minister could be honoured appropriately and advised to take much needed rest after doing 100 per cent work one year before completion of his term.
