Chandigarh, September 3 2021 The Shiromani has received another boost in Patiala, the home district of chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh with Anu Randhawa, the daughter of late Congress minister Jasjit Singh Randhawa, joining the party along with her supporters.
Ms Anu Randhawa had contested the 2017 assembly elections from Ghanur on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket.
Welcoming Ms Randhawa into the SAD fold, its president Sukhbir Singh Badal said her joining would not only strengthen the party in Ghanaur but the entire district. “We want hard working leaders with an honest reputation and a record of public service to join the SAD to fulfill the aspirations of Punjabis who want to oust the corrupt and scam ridden Congress government from the State”, Mr Badal said while addressing newsmen on the occasion.
The SAD President also appointed Ms Randhawa as Vice President of the party. Her close confidante Kuldeep Singh Aulakh, a former councilor, has been appointed Organizing Secretary.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Randhawa said she was upset by the anti-Punjab policies of AAP and felt that the SAD alone was the remaining credible party in Punjab. “The Congress has no face to go back to the people after failing to implement any of the promises made to them”. She said she would also fight to secure justice for the people of Ghanaur who were suffering due to various kinds of mafias – sand, liquor and drugs – all of which were being run by Congress legislator Madan Lal Jalalpur.
Speaking on the occasion, senior leader Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra said the very fact that Congressmen in Patiala district were switching sides spoke volumes about the state of the party. He said earlier the chief minister’s confidant – Balwinder Singh Safdipur had also joined the SAD. “Today Anu Randhawa and her entire team have chosen to join the SAD for the welfare of the constituency and the State”.
