Shifting from electricity to solar energy is a good step: Ranjit Singh

Chandigarh, December 3

Haryana Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister, Ranjit Singh said that shifting from electricity to solar energy is a good step. In this series, the Haryana government has set a target of providing 50,000 solar pumps to State farmers.

The Minister said this while addressing a State-Level Energy Conservation Award Ceremony organized for the year 2017-18 and 2018-19 by the Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) through virtual medium here today.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, “We have to use our natural resources judiciously and wisely for sustainable development and better future for our coming generations.”

He said that the Government of India has started an ambitious programme to use 450 GW renewable energy power by 2030. So far, a target of 89 GW has been achieved. In Haryana too, about 561 MW capacity of renewable energy have been added till now. He said that the government is implementing a major programme for the installation of 15,000 solar pumps along with giving 75 percent subsidy which aims to meet the irrigation needs of farmers in an environmentally friendly way through clean energy.

In the event organized through virtual medium, Additional Chief Secretary, New and Renewable Department, Mr. T.C. Gupta said that Haryana was ranked first in the entire country in the State Energy Efficiency Index last year.

Director General, New and Renewable Department, Dr. Hanif Qureshi said that Panchkula has been selected to increase solar energy and green energy. He said that as part of efforts made for energy conservation and energy efficiency, the state gives awards to various categories of energy consumers every year, in which a shield, certificate and cash prize is given from Rs 50, 000 to Rs 2 lakh.

Awards for the year 2017-2018

Out of 18 applications for the year 2017-18, seven applications have been selected for the award. The first prize was awarded to M/s Jindal Stainless Steel, Hisar and second prize was given to M/s DCM Textile, Hisar in the category of industries over one MW. In the category of Government Buildings below 500 KW, first prize was given to BSNL Telephone Exchange, Bahadurgarh and second prize was given to BSNL, Telephone Exchange, Bhiwani. In the category of institutions and organizations,  J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad was given  first prize and  in the category of Best Energy Auditing / Green Building Firms first prize was won by A-Z Energy Engineers, Faridabad, while M/s Technical Management Consultancy Center (TMCC), Panchkula received second prize in this category.

Awards for the year 2018-2019

For the year 2018-19, out of 32 applications, eight applications have been selected for the award and one application has been selected for an appreciation letter. In the category of industries above one MW the first prize was given to M/s Grasim Bhiwani Textiles Limited, Bhiwani, second prize was given to M/s Carriage and Wagon Repair Workshop, Northern Railway, Jagadhri.  ITC Green Center, Gurugram was awarded first prize in the category of commercial buildings with one MW or more load added. In the category of Government Buildings below 500 KW, BSNL Telephone Exchange Building, Kurukshetra won the first prize. In the Institutions and Organizations category, first prize was received by Sanatan Dharma College, Ambala Cantt and second prize was given to G.D Goenka University, Shiksha City, Sohna-Gurgaon road. Similarly, Ultratech Cement Ltd. Panipat was awarded a letter of appreciation.

During the programme, other awards were announced by the Minister and the winners were rewarded by the Deputy Commissioners and Additional Deputy Commissioners of their respective districts. In the programme, Dr. Hanif Qureshi also honoured Ranjit Singh by giving mementos.

Additional Director, New and Renewable Energy Department, Om Dutt Sharma proposed a vote of thanks. The award winner and various stakeholders were present in the programme along with the Chief Scientific Engineer of the department, P. K Yadav and other senior officials.
