Recalling the martyrdom of Shaheed Udham Singh, Mann said, “We have come here to pay homage to the martyr, who has given us freedom, due to which we are being honored with flowers and garlands today.”
He said the governments of the time had ignored the personalities of freedom, but the people who were obsessed with martyrs were reaching out to the Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies and putting the sacrifices of the martyrs before the world. Mann said Sunam is his birthplace and land of deeds and he would do his utmost to further develop the memory related to Shaheed Udham Singh.
Harpal Singh Cheema while paying homage to Shaheed Udham Singh said that martyrs are the capital of the nation and the sacrifice of Shaheed Udham Singh has kept the honor and dignity of Punjab alive in the world.
Aman Arora said the same policy under which grandson of former Chief Minister Beant Singh, sons of Congress MLAs Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa and Rakesh Pandey, were being given favour of government jobs; all eligible heirs of Shaheed Udham Singh should also be given government jobs under the same policy. “What could be more tragic than the fact that the families of martyrs are stumbling from time to time, but jobs are being distributed to the children of the families who are enjoying the pleasures of power,” he said. Arora said we have come to pay homage to Shaheed Udham Singh and pledge that efforts would be made to create the society and country of martyrs’ dreams.
