VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS ASI IN CORRUPTION CASE FOR TAKING BRIBE RS 5,000

Chandigarh December 15 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign on Tuesday, has arrested an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), Lakhwinder Singh (899/Kapurthala), posted at police station Bholath, district Kapurthala for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above accused ASI has been arrested after investigation of an online complaint lodged at the Chief Minister’s anti-corruption helpline.

Giving details he added that the complainant Avtar Singh resident of village Akala, in Bholath has alleged that the above said police official has demanded and accepted Rs 5,000 as a bribe to take action on a complaint lodged at the police station regarding his son. He was asking more money as a bribe to register FIR in this case and the complainant has recorded the conversation in this regard.

The spokesperson added that the VB has investigated the allegations levelled in the complaint and registered a corruption case at VB police station Jalandhar against the above mentioned police official after finding him guilty for demanding and accepting a bribe money. In this regard the VB has arrested the ASI under Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation in this case was under progress.
