Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh, today, reviewed the performance of government drug de-addiction centres of Sangrur and Barnala districts amidst the ongoing anti-drugs campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ of Punjab Government. The minister also held meetings with the officials of district administrations and operators of private drug de-addiction centres of these districts.

Dr. Balbir Singh said that, not limiting itself to just curbing the drug menace, Punjab government has gone a step ahead and has been ensuring rehabilitation of the addicted patients by providing them skill based trainings for employment opportunities. He said that apart from this, every village will soon have 15 member committees which would make the youth aware of the ill-effects of drugs and remain vigilant about drug peddling in their respective areas.

The minister also warned the drug peddlers to stop smuggling, lest they want to find themselves behind the bars or else leave the state. He added that women addicts will be accorded separate wards so that they could be treated with dignity.

Dr Balbir Singh added that the campaign has evoked positive response from every section of the society and in the coming few months, drugs will be wiped off the state.
