Energy Conservation Building Code rules mandatory in commercial building construction

June 22

New and Renewable Energy Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Dang said that rapid economic development, urbanization and growing population have put immense pressure on energy supply resources. Commercial buildings are becoming major consumers of energy and biggest emitters of greenhouse gases in the country and the state. In view of this, the state government is making ‘Madhya Pradesh Energy Conservation Building Code Rules’ mandatory from November 1st. Shri Dang informed that Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam has made the Madhya Pradesh Energy Conservation Building Rules Code and the Madhya Pradesh Energy Conservation Building Code Rules by amending the existing Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and ECBC rules according to the climate, conditions and local requirements of the state. The Central Bureau of Energy Efficiency had made the Energy Conservation Building Code in 2017 and the Energy Conservation Building Code rules in the year 2018 for commercial buildings. Information about the law related to compliance will be available through MP-ECBC rules. Energy performance standards have been prescribed for commercial buildings in the rule. By checking these, energy conservation in commercial buildings can be made better than the current building. Commercial buildings such as hotels, educational institutions, health institutions, shopping centers, commercial business use buildings, airports, railway stations-bus stands, buildings for entertainment, social, religious purposes, where people gather in large number will come under the purview. If an applicant wants to make a commercial building or such buildings after November 1, 2021, the combined electrical load of which is likely to be 100 kW or more or the electricity demand is likely to be 120 KVA or more, then the applicant has to ensure many points.
