Sports minister led delegation met VC and Associate Pro-VC of world’s best sports university

Chandigarh, February 13:

With an aim to upgrade sports infrastructure in Punjab and equipped its only sports university with world class facilities and techniques, Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi led delegation visited world’s the best in sports Loughborough University, Leicestershire, United Kingdom. The delegation was comprised of Mr. Husan Lal, Principal Secretary Sports and Lt. General (Retd) J.S. Cheema, Vice Chancellor, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Sports University, Patiala.

Rana sodhi also met Vice Chancellor and President of Loughborough University Professor Robert J. Allison and Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Elizabeth Peel and held discussions on various aspects of sports sector to carve out feasibilities to promote sports in the state of Punjab.

Sports Minister said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh led state government is keen to create more opportunities in the field of sports. “Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Sports University is the dream project of the Chief Minister, who has envisioned to making the state regain its numero uno position in sporting arena and sports science”, said Rana Sodhi, adding that if the state of Punjab desirous to set a benchmark in sports, we must have to work in the field of sports sciences, sports technology and sports medicines.

Giving further details of the deliberations, Rana Sodhi informed that Punjab will soon sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Loughborough University to acquire latest sports facilities and techniques, thus to create world class sports infrastructure in the state. He further said that the Vice Chancellor Professor Robert J. Allison and Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Elizabeth Peel have given their consent to provide technical support for the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Sports University. The Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor on their part assured of every possible assistance from their end for efficiently running the university, he added.

The Minister said that during meeting, many issues were discussed; including infrastructural and sports science, advanced sports methods, coaching techniques, training of players and their post life, maintaining fitness levels of players through innovative coaching techniques and honing coaches.
