FACTS ABOUT THE FIRST MATHEMATICIAN OF INDIA: ARYABHATTA

In ancient India people believed that solar and lunar eclipse are caused due to a fight between the demons Rahu and Ketu and victory of one over the other. Anyhow, Aryabhatta, came along and busted that myth with facts. He is the author of Aryabhatiya and is considered to be one of the great mathematicians of India as he made revolutionary measures in the field of astronomy and mathematics. Here are some facts about the great expert:

1.He is regarded as first of Indian mathematicians whose work was even accepted by Arabians. He changed the whole world by giving logical explanations about some of the space activities which were earlier explained using Orthodox facts.

2.He wrote his popular book Aryabhatiya just at the age of 23 which contains innumerable concepts about mathematics and astronomy, from trigonometry to algebra.

3. A major contribution made by Aryabhatta was his invention of “zero” which is widely accepted and even used today. He was able to figure out the place value system which ultimately helped him with the discovery of zero.

4.The first person to figure out that an year was made of approximately 365 days was Aryabhatta. He figured out the year, month, and week system by taking the seasons into consideration and formulating a proper plan.

5. Arybhatta clarified the presence of 9 other planets jnthe solar system and also proved that they all rotated around the Sun. He further proved that Earth was one of those nine planets.

6. The moon is considered to be a beautiful shining object in the sky which appears to have a bright white light. However, this myth was busted by the great mathematician when he stated that Moon derived it’s light from the Sun and had no light of it’s own.
