The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has strongly protested against the appointment of Jagdish Tytler, convicted in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, as a permanent invitee of the Delhi Pradesh Congress by the Congress High Command. At the same time, the AAP also lashed out at the Punjab Congress on the issue and challenged the Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Punjab Congress President Navjot Sidhu to clarify their stand on the issue.

In a joint statement issued from the party headquarters here on Saturday, senior party leader and MLA Prof Baljinder Kaur and party spokesperson Manwinder Singh Giaspura asked the Gandhi family and the entire Congress, that the Congress has not done justice to Sikhs; but when will it stop rubbing the salt into the wounds of the 1984 massacre?

Prof Baljinder Kaur said, “After all, what kind of favor has Jagdish Tytler done to the Gandhi family that Tytler is being given positions again and again; when Tytler’s crime is not to rank but to rot in jail.” She said that the Gandhi family should not displease Sikhs and justice loving people again and again by giving positions to criminals like Jagdish Tytler.

Prof Baljinder Kaur said that Jagdish Tytler was a notorious and judicial convict of the 1984 Sikh genocide and several cases were pending against him with the CBI. Unfortunately, just as the Congress has been defending Jagdish Tytler and other accused while in power; so has the BJP government at the centre defending such alleged killers, she said.

Party spokesperson Manwinder Singh Giaspura said, “This decision of the Congress High Command has once again exposed the mindset of the Congress about the 1984 massacre. It is clear that the Congress can never give justice to the Sikhs, although the people of Punjab have believed in the Congress many times after 1984. But the Congress has always betrayed the Sikhs and the Punjabis.”

The AAP leaders further said that the Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu, along with all the Congress leaders should explain their stand on the honor bestowed on Jagdish Tytler by the Congress High Command.
