Farmer Suresh becomes financially independent by cultivating strawberries

Farmer Suresh Tiwari, a resident of Thodaha village of Kotma development block of Anuppur district, is engaged in strawberry cultivation in his 1.400 hectare field under the ‘Atma’ project of the Farmer-welfare and Agriculture Department. He acquired 5 days training in strawberry cultivation at Mata Gujari College Sahibgarh, Punjab. After training, he started farming with 500 plants of strawberry, in which he got success and generated an income of Rs 50 thousand.
Encouraged by this, Suresh Tiwari cultivated 4 thousand more strawberry plants to further expand its cultivation. This earned him an income of Rs 1.50 lakh. Strawberry cultivation has made him financially independent. He has started making new experiments on his agricultural land by moving away from traditional farming. He has also planted mango saplings in about one acre, which will give him additional economic benefits. By adopting advanced techniques of farming, he cultivated paddy in Kharif and also produced vegetables. Shri Tiwari has been honored with Block Level Award for his distinguished achievement in the field of agriculture.
