KARGIL SEPTEMBER 04, 2020: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan on Thursday flagged off 3 Water Quality Testing vehicles of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department Kargil for drinking water quality testing in Kargil district under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The CEC also flagged off 5 water tankers purchased by the department under AMRUT scheme at a total cost of Rs 1 crore and 10 lacs.
Executive Councillor for Social Welfare Aga Syed Mujtaba Mosavi, Executive Councillor for Rural Development Er Phunsog Tashi, Chief Engineer PHE and I&FC Ladakh Ajaz Ahmad Khan, Executive Engineer PHE, Kargil Subhash Chander besides other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
The officers concerned informed the CEC that under Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Nal Se Jal), all water sources and distribution lines will be tested as per the 12 set parameters to ensure provision of safe and clean drinking water to the local populations.
The CEC said that under Jal Jeevan Mission, 2 pilot projects have been taken up in the district to ensure the application of technology to provide uninterrupted drinking water supply to people in the district during the harsh winter months.
CEC Khan further said that as per the pilot projects, teams are presently conducting survey in Drass and Minjee areas of the district and depending on the success rate this winter, the project will be replicated in other parts of the district as well.
The CEC said that the new tankers procured by PHE Department Kargil will go a long way in providing drinking water facilities to the consumers especially during the winter season.
Pertinently, during the water quality testing, water samples will be collected from the water sources to delivery points at grass root level in all villages to ensure smooth operation of water supply, verification of the safety of drinking water, investigation of disease outbreaks and validation process and preventive measures in the entire district.
