Fine of Rs 11200 recovered from erring traders: Bandipora

On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, a market checking squad of Legal Metrology fined of Rs 11200 from erring shopkeepers. Due to the complaints of over-pricing and use of single plastic bags on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi(SAW), the district administration directed to conduct a massive district wide inspection drive to check over pricing and take serious action against instances of violations. The DC has directed all the concerned officers to make regular inspections of markets falling within their respective jurisdiction. The Department of Legal Metrology lead by Assistant Controller conducted inspection of various business establishments including vegetable, fruit sellers, poultry, mutton sellers, Kiryana, Bakery, LPG distributors and fuel dispensing pumps at Lankreshipora, Qazipora, Ashtingoo, Sheikh Muqam, Binlipora, Aloosa, Ajas and main market. During the inspection, 16 traders were found under different laws for violation of various legal metrology laws and a fine of Rs 11200 was imposed on erring traders. On the occasion, officers asked traders to follow the rules in letter and spirit and also asked the vendors to follow the packaged commodity rules and other Metrology Acts. The DC mentioned that the drive will continue on regular basis across all district markets to keep a check on traders and shopkeepers for indulging in overcharging and other unethical activities.
