Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Barnala from 1947 till date, the District Administration Barnala has  revived their legacy in the form of Martyrs’ Gallery at the District Administrative Complex here..
Minister Razia Sultana inaugurated the gallery on Independence Day celebrations. Brainchild of the Deputy Commissioner Barnala Tej Pratap Singh Phoolka, the gallery includes pictures and details of 1965 war heroes of China war, Pakistan war, Sri Lanka operations and those who laid down their lives for the motherland in various combat operations. Soldiers Martyr’s Photo Gallery has been set up inside the main entrance hall of the District Administration Complex enabling visitors to the complex to know their martyrs.
“Martyrs’ gallant bravery and indomitable spirit for the country is heartening. The idea was to let the young generations know their martyrs  and pay a tribute to those who loved India more than their own lives,” says Mr. Phoolka. He entrusted the Guardians of Governance (GoG) – ex servicemen – of district Barnala to collect their details and pictures. The GOG district incharge Lt Col Labh Singh led the team and collected records village to village. It took over six months to complete this challenging task. He says the DC kept a regular follow up on the progress.
Mr. Phoolka  informed that it was an arduous task to get a record of every martyr  from various villages/city and set up these photos in a gallery with their service records.
Photos of 65 martyrs have been set up at the gallery.
