GDC Kargil organizes seminars on wild mushrooms of Northwestern Himalayas of JK, Ladakh
KARGIL, SEPTEMBER 13, 2022:
Department of Botany, GDC Kargil and Mountain Agriculture Research and Extension Station SKUAST, Kargil today organized a seminar on wild mushrooms of Northwestern Himalaya of J&K and Ladakh in collaboration with the Department of Botany, University of Jammu.
Prof. Yashpal Sharma, a renowned expert in mycology, was the lead speaker on the occasion. He was welcomed by Dr Javed Naqi, Senior Assistant Professor with traditional Khatak.
In his welcome address, Dr Naqi appreciated the esteemed guest for coming to Kargil all the way from Jammu and for interacting with the students and faculty of GDC Kargil.
Prof. Sharma, in his talk, enlightened the audience on the basics of fungal diversity and its forms with respect to the Northwestern Himalayan regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He focused on imparting knowledge about fungal diversity, mushroom biology and their high economic and environmental importance.
This presentation was followed by an interaction session with students of GDC Kargil. More than 100 students participated in the day-long program. The program was chaired by the principal Dr Amina Quari while the faculty members also graced the event.
Rinchen Angmo, Assistant Professor Botany conducted the program proceedings while Dr Azra Khatoon, Assistant Professor English presented a vote of thanks. The program was coordinated by the faculty of the botany department, GDC Kargil.
