Chandigarh, September 21 – Haryana Health Department has started first round of Sub National Immunization (SNID) Pulse Polio Campaign 2020-21 in the high-risk areas, including containment zones of 13 districts while adhering to the social distancing norms. Around, 6.3 lakh children are to be covered during this campaign in the state.
The department has carried out booth activity on the first day in 13 districts namely, Ambala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sonipat and Yamunanagar, so as to maintain the polio free status of the State. Owing to the present circumstances arisen due to COVID-19 pandemic all health officers and front line workers performed their duties with full precaution like use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits, masks, sanitizers, gloves etc. Teams followed hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene & social distancing measures as well.
The booths were inaugurated by eminent personalities, including MLAs/ Deputy Commissioners/ Municipal Councillors/ Civil Surgeon or other senior officers in most of the districts. MLA Palwal, Mr. Deepak Mangla & MLA Gurgaon, Mr. Sudhir Singla inaugurated the SNID round in district Palwal & Gurgaon respectively. District President BJP, Mr. Narender Patel, inaugurated the SNID round in district Nuh. Director Administration, NHM Haryana Dr. B.K Rajoura, inaugurated the campaign in district Sonepat.
This campaign will continue for another day by way of House-to-House activity to trace and administer polio drops to the left out children on booth day. On the first day of activity, approximately 3.74 lakh (59%) children under 5 years of age have been administered polio drops. In order to smoothly carry out this campaign, around 4,000 health teams, including health workers/volunteers/Anganwari Workers/ASHA etc.
About 500 field supervisors in all districts and 5-6 district supervisors in each district supervised the activity apart from Independent Monitors of NPSP-WHO. This activity was preceded by undertaking awareness campaign through print media, and other IEC activities.
The left out children during the booth activity on 1st day will be administered polio vaccine drops on 21st & 22nd September, 2020 through visit of house-to-house teams in high risk areas like slums, isolated hutments, brick kilns, floating/ migrating population & construction sites. It is important to know that due to consistent hard work of all stakeholder departments, India and Haryana are polio free since 2012 and with every successive round of NID/ SNID it is ensured that Polio free status of India is sustained. Active participation is solicited from general public also. The 2nd Sub National Immunization Day of 2020-21 is scheduled to be held on 1st November 2020.
