Haryana Police arrested 293 most wanted and rewarded criminals in the year 2020

Chandigarh, January 12- Haryana Police, acting tough against notorious criminals and other offenders, arrested 293 most wanted and rewarded criminals in the year 2020 across the state.

Disclosing this here today, Director General of Police (DGP), Haryana, Manoj Yadava said that all these arrested criminals were not only accused in heinous crimes like murder, attempt to murder, extortion, loot, dacoity etc, but also carried a reward ranging between Rs 5000 and Rs 2.50 lakh on their arrest.

The DGP informed that the state-wide effort during the year to check crime rate also led to the arrest of 3653 proclaimed offenders (POs) and 3183 bail jumpers. Out of these, 537 POs and 557 bail jumpers were apprehended by the state crime branch and the rest were arrested by field units. Among the arrested offenders, many of them had been evading arrest for long.

Yadava informed that during the last year police had laid special emphasis on control of illicit arms in the state and registered 2182 cases under Arms act which was 9.26 percent  higher in comparison to the 2019, despite COVID pandemic, and led to the seizure of 1637 pistols, 52 revolvers, 2947 cartridges and 88 knives. Our strategies are very clear and any kind of criminal element or habitual offenders will not be spared, he added.

Referring to the district-wise figures of arrest of offenders, he said that maximum 53 most wanted criminals were arrested from Mewat followed by 34 in Gurugram, 32 in Sonepat, 31 in Palwal, 28 in Jhajjar and 18 each in Faridabad and Rohtak.

“As many as 31.70 lakh reward money had been given to the informers who provided credible information for the arrest of these big fish. Our Special Task Force, formed to deal with organized crime, had also done a commendable job of making these arrests”, he added.

Issuing a stern warning to the criminals, the DGP further said that there is no place for crime in the state. Either they leave the state or join the mainstream. Apart from STF, all the Commissioners of Police and district Superintendents of Police have already been told clearly to take stern action against the hardcore criminals, organized gangs and any kind of anti-social elements.
