Haryana State Election Commission prescribes Election Expenditure Limit for Presidents of the Municipal Councils and Committees
Chandigarh, November 27
Haryana State Election Commission has prescribed the Election Expenditure Limit for Presidents of the Municipal Councils and Committees to Rs 15 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh respectively.
Giving information in this regard, a spokesman of the State Election Commission said that Haryana Government on October 30, 2020 had amended the Haryana Municipal Act 1973, according to which Presidents in all Municipal Council and Committees of the State shall be chosen through the direct election by the electors of all the wards of the concerned Municipalities. In view of the above, the Election Expenditure Limit has been prescribed.
The spokesman said that the Commission has also issued directions that the accounts of expenditure to be incurred by the contesting candidates will be maintained and submitted to the Deputy Commissioners within 30 days of the declaration of the result.
The State Election Commission has further directed that if a candidate fails to submit accounts of expenditure incurred by him/her for election within the prescribed time limit, the Commission by order published in Official Gazette shall declare him/her to be disqualified and may such person be disqualified for a period of five years from the date of the order.
The spokesman further informed that every contesting candidate shall either himself or by his authorized election agent will have to keep a separate and correct account of all expenditure in connection with the election between the dates he/she has been nominated and date of declaration of result both dates inclusive.
He said that any violation by the contesting candidate or his authorized agent/individual to incur any expenditure in excess of the limit mentioned above will be viewed seriously by the State Election Commission and stringent action will be taken against him/her.
