119 Block Level Health Mela are being held across Punjab from 18th to 22nd April

Under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahautsav’ campaign, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Vijay Singla inaugurated the Health Mela across Punjab today. Addressing the state-level function held at the district hospital, Dr. Vijay Singla said that 119 block-level health mela are being organized in the state from April 18 to 22. He said that these mela aimed to provide quality and comprehensive health services to the people, especially the people living in the villages, and also to give them more effective information about the symptoms, causes, prevention, and treatment of various diseases.

“The issue of health today demands a lot of attention,” he said. Our government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the complete well-being of the people and improving the health infrastructure and providing quality healthcare facilities, said Dr. Vijay Singla. He said that the purpose of these mela would only be completed when tests, medicine, and other health facilities will be provided in the public hospitals. He assured that in the future the people would be provided high-quality health facilities in government health facilities.
Addressing the function, Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, thanked Dr. Vijay Singla and he said that it was a matter of pride for the Mohali constituency that these state-level fairs related to public health have been started from his constituency. He said that the people of the state were facing a double whammy of communicable and non-communicable diseases and most of these diseases could be prevented by early detection, health education, timely referral, and management. He hoped that these fairs would prove to be invaluable to the people and would go a long way in making the people of the state healthier.
It may be recalled that many stalls related to various programs were set up in the mela today in which a large number of people came and took advantage of the health facilities available on the spot. Apart from this other departments also set up their stalls. Apart from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, several other departments of the government such as the Food and Supplies Department, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Department of AYUSH, Department of School Education, Department of Women and Child Development, Department of Information and Public Relations, Panchayati Raj Institution and Urban Development Departments are participating. In these mela, various services like laboratory services, consultation, medicine and treatment, referral, etc. will be available in one place.

Gojra, Deputy Commissioner Mohali Amit Talwar, Civil Surgeon Dr. Adarshpal Kaur, SDM Harbans Singh, principal of the medical college, Dr. Bhawanit Bharti, District Immunization Officer Girish Dogra, SMO Dr. Vijay Bhagat, Dr. H.S. Cheema and several other health and administrative officials were also present.
