Book is written for general public in Punjabi by State Awardee Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh

Health and Family Welfare Minister Punjab, S Balbir Singh Sidhu today released a book on “Primary Knowledge about prostate cancer”.This book is authored by state awardee Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh, chief Urologist & Transplant Surgeon, Aykai hospital, Ludhiana.
Health Minister said that as per preliminary reports of 2021 prostate cancer affected 14 lacs people in India consulted various hospitals but actual number is estimated to be much more. Prostate cancer is one of the common cancers affecting men above the age of 50 and it affects different patients differently. Hence, public needs to know real course of treatment in their respective cases from qualified urologist and not fall prey to unauthentic information on social media.
“Early diagnosis is the key to cure,” said he adding that the book by Dr. Aulakh might help people in understanding the problem and treatment required. He congratulated Dr Aulakh and Dr Bindra, the editor of the book for putting efforts to bring the book in Punjabi for common men.
Dr Aulakh said that good news is prostate cancer is most curable and may not kill patients but bad news is patients consult urologist quite late as prostate is linked to urination and sex .Hence it is already wide spread by the time patient reaches urologist. The book tells about signs and symptoms, diagnosis, stages, various treatment modalities including surgery, radiotherapy, hormonal therapy and diet for the prostate cancer patients. In his book, Dr Aulakh advised that men must get blood test (PSA) checked up regularly after age of 50. They must consult urologist if urinary or sexual problem is detected.
Dr Apar Singh Bindra, editor of book thanked the Minister, S Jagbir Singh ex MLA, Dr SS Gill former VC and the others present. He said that they would bring more such books in future.
