Home Made Drinks to build up your Immune System

 *Turmeric tea*

Ingredients:

  • Fresh turmeric grated – 1 tbsp of turmeric powder
  • Lemon juice 1 tbsp
  • Unpasteurized honey – to taste
  • Water 4 cups needed

Method:

Boil it with water for 15-20 minutes. Strain and drink warm also lemon and honey to can be added according to taste.

Benefit:

The main element of this drink is turmeric. It contains a compound called curcumin which modulates the immune system. Turmeric tea’s strong anti-inflammatory properties can help ease inflammation and pain as well.

*Immunity boosting spiced tea*

Ingredients:

  • Ginger grated – 1 tbsp
  • Peppercorns – 2
  • Cinnamon – 1 stick
  • Cloves – 2
  • Star anise – 1
  • Cardamom pod – 1 crushed
  • Unpasteurized honey – 1 tbsp
  • Tulsi leaves – a handful

Method:

Boil all ingredients not honey with a liter of water in a pan for 30 minutes. Have ¼ cup of this drink warm with a little bit of honey.

Benefit:

This tea is anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and rich in compounds that help ward of infections. The phytonutrients in raw honey have anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties that can help to boost your immune system and fight sickness.

 *Ginger and apple cider vinegar soother*

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1-inch ginger peeled and grated
  • 1 spoon of unpasteurized apple cider vinegar
  • 1 spoon of raw honey
  • a pinch of cayenne pepper

Method:

Boil water and turn off the gas than add ginger, cover it and steep for 5 minutes. Add ACV, honey, and cayenne, mix and drink warm.

Benefit:

Ginger contains chemicals called sesquiterpenes that fights cold viruses. Cayenne peppers contain a high amount of capsaicin that suppresses a neuropeptide involved in inflammatory processes. ACV contains beneficial bacteria and prebiotics that can have a very good impact on immune health.

*Green juice*

Ingredients:

  • Coriander leaves – 1 cup
  • Mint leaves – 1 cup
  • Baby spinach – 1 cup
  • Apple or pear – 1
  • Cucumber – 1 cup (chopped)
  • Lemon – 2 tbsp
  • Black salt –  only a pinch

Method:

Blend all them than by adding a cup of water. Drink immediately.

Benefit:

This juice is high in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Folic acid and other antioxidants that fight inflammation and prevent the body from infections.

*Golden milk*

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of unsweetened almond milk
  • ½ cup light coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp. raw honey
  • 1 tsp Haldi powder (turmeric) or fresh grated turmeric
  • ½ tsp ginger, ground
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • 1-inch piece of cinnamon

Method:

Combine them in a pan not honey. Heat the mixture on the on a low flame for 5 to 10 minutes. Do not boil. Remove from flame, strain and add honey of you want.

Benefit:

The active ingredient, curcumin, found in turmeric boosts the antioxidant capacity by being fighting against free radicals. The spices and the nut milks which provide good fats have an anti inflammatory action on the body.

*Hot lemonade*

Ingredients:

  • 4 fresh garlic cloves – chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • 4 cups water
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 1 tbsp mint leaves

Method:

First Boil the water. Add all ingredients except honey, cover it and steep for 30 minutes. Strain, pour in a glass and add raw honey or you can also ads maple syrup to taste. Drink warm.

Benefit:

Ginger and garlic contain antimicrobial compounds that help in treating infectious diseases. The antioxidants in cinnamon have anti-inflammatory effects, which may help lower your risk of disease.

Evergreen Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of baby spinach
  • A handful of mint leaves
  • ½ cup of bottle gourd/ cucumber
  • ½ cup of curds
  • A pinch of rock salt
  • ¼ tsp jeera powder
  • A piece of amla or ½ tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Method:

Place all the ingredients in a blender with ice cubes and blend till gets smooth.

Benefit:

Spinach is high with antioxidants like Vitamin C, beta carotene, which will increase the infection fighting ability of our immune systems. The good bacteria in curd helps boost the immune system and reduce the incidences of attacks by harmful microorganisms.
