HOW TO PREPARE FOR MATHEMATICS SECTION OF SAT EXAM

The SAT exam is popular among students eager to study abroad in a graduate program. The exam essentially evaluates student’s learning from high school and requires skills set during college to proceed in the course of their choice.

Many foreign colleges and universities require submission of SAT scores as part of the admissions process (mostly in the US).

The exam for students is divided into three sections – Reading Test, Writing and Language Test and Mathematics Test. In addition, there is an optional essay section.

What Is The Math Test In SAT Exam?

Mathematics is an important part of the SAT exam. As a future problem-solver, it is necessary to examine how a university student breaks a large problem into smaller parts and defines its structure before arriving at a solution.

SAT Math Test Structure

In the SAT exam, two sections have been dedicated to Maths:

Section 3: Mathematics (non calculator) consists of 20 questions to be solved in 25 minutes.

Section 4: Maths (calculator) section consists of answering 38 questions in 55 minutes.

To do well in the Mathematics section of the SAT, it is important to break the syllabus into three major areas:

A) Algebra

B) Problem Solving and Data Analysis

C) Advanced Mathematics

Strategy For Math Section Preparation

1. Clarity and Confidence

To do well in SAT mathematics, one must focus on two things – clarity and confidence.

Of these, confidence should be slightly higher and at the same time the main focus should be on clarity in terms of concepts and application.

2. Practice Within The Time Limit

After receiving orders on subjects, it will be very necessary for a student to write tests within the sectional time frame.

3. Analysis Of Practice Tests

The test should be analysed in-depth before attempting the next practice test. While doing the practice test, there should not be a target score, but rather try different types of questions.

4. Increase Ability Slowly

Initially, it will take time to develop an understanding of a topic and its application. Students are required to give the subjects a fixed time. When you reach a higher level of competencies, the time required to solve complex problems will be reduced.
