— Bikram Singh Majithia strongly condemns not honouring first martyr of Agniveer scheme Amritpal Singh with Guard of Honour and denying facility of army ambulance to bring body of martyr back home

— Says we completely reject this Agniveer scheme which is most shameful policy framed till date after Independence

Chandigarh, October 14:
Shiromani Akali Dal strongly condemned not honouring first martyr of Agniveer scheme Amritpal Singh who sacrificed his life in Jammu & Kashmir at young age of 19, with Guard of honour and also flayed not providing army ambulance to bring body of martyr back home in Punjab even as party demanded immediate scrapping of Agniveer scheme and regularisation of services of all soldiers recruited under the scheme till date.

In a statement released here today, senior SAD leader Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia said that it was most tragic and unfortunate to see that due to Modi Government’s new Agniveer Policy first martyr of the country only 19 year old Amritpal Singh was not even provided army ambulance to bring his body home. He said that further it is most shameful to note that even customary Guard of Honour was not provided to Martyr.

He said that this is the most shameful and heinous policy framed for soldiers of the country who are always on the front to save their motherland from enemy and we have never witnessed such a scheme after Independence and we completely reject Agniveer scheme.

SAD leader said that only yesterday Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah had accepted that martyrs from Sikh community were at forefront to save country but what is Government of India doing with them ? He said it was most disturbing to note that this was policy for Agniveers to totally ignore them after their sacrifice for the country ? He said that keeping in view insensitive approach of Modi Government youth will desist from getting recruited under the scheme.

Mr. Majithia demanded that Modi government should immediately stop this scheme and regularise services of all Agniveers recruited till date.

He also urged Punjab Government to honour its words for martyrs and provide family with assistance of Rs. One crore and a job for the family.
