The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and deputy leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Saravjeet Kaur Manuke demanded immediate resignation of Punjab advocate general Atul Nanda on the quashing of the probe reports of the special investigation team (SIT) in the sacrilege case by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, stating that IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who was heading the SIT had exposed the role played by Atul Nanda in the desecration and other cases. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Tuesday, Manunke said that the IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who headed the SIT formed by Captain Amarinder Singh to probe the issue of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji at Bargari, has made public the role played by Atul Nanda and his staff.
She said that the revelations made by the former police officer showed that Captain Amarinder Singh himself wanted to save the accused and that is what happened. Referring to the revelations made by Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, Manuke said that the state advocate general Atul Nanda did not appear in the Punjab and Haryana court even once in favor of the report on the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and instead took leaves by making excuses. “Apart from this, the Advocate General’s staff spent lakhs of rupees during the court proceedings and enjoyed only the facilities of five star hotels and did nothing to bring justice to the Sikh community,” she added.
Manuke said that even the advocate general’s team also misbehaved with senior IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, who was fighting for justice. Questioning Captain Amarinder Singh, she said that when the SIT head IPS Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had informed the Chief Minister that Advocate General Atul Nanda and his team was not playing the right role in the sacrilege case, then why did Captain not change Nanda and his team. “Captain Amarinder Singh should tell as to what merit do Atul Nanda possesses, that the Captain government has associated him with them,” she added. Manuke demanded from the Chief Minister that Punjab AG Atul Nanda should be removed from the post with immediate effect and strict action should be taken against the lawyers who had misbehaved with a senior police officer. She also demanded Captain Amarinder to make public the account of the expenses incurred for the prosecution of the case.
