AAP point fingers at Channi government’s exaggerated figures

Chandigarh, November 10 2021

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and MLA Aman Arora and MLA and Youth Wing Punjab president Meet Hayer have demanded from the Channi government to issue ‘white paper’ regarding the total number of unemployed in the state, district level statistics of unemployed receiving unemployment benefits, teachers who have been providing guest faculty services in government colleges for many years along with new recruitments done in the last over four-and-a-half-years and number of permanent raw employees at departmental level; so that every citizen of Punjab can know how much the Congress has lived up to its promise of Ghar-Ghar Rozgar.

At the same time, the AAP raised questions on the figures being exaggerated by the Congress government through statements and advertisements on new jobs, regularizing raw employees along with cheapening of electricity and diesel-petrol. In a joint statement issued from the party headquarters here on Wednesday, Aman Arora and Meet Hayer said that the Congress government who was beating and harassing the qualified unemployed, guest faculty teachers, contract and outsourced raw employees fighting for regular jobs for over four-and-a-half-years; now, in its last days has started playing tricks to mislead the people again.

Aman Arora said that the Channi government was not only misleading but also misusing government exchequer for this misleading propaganda. He said that although it was too late, the decision of the government to regularise the raw employees was welcome; but the Channi government will have to give details according to the departments, as the implementation of the figures being presented by the Channi government and the decisions being announced are in question. An example of this is the difference between the claims made by Charanjit Singh Channi as the Technical Education Minister about the so-called job fairs and the reality; which everyone has seen.

Arora said that the government which had promised Ghar-Ghar Rozgar, was also taking off jobs of hundreds of thousands of people; who had been providing temporary services for 15-20 years; an example of which is the hundreds of teachers serving as guest faculty in government colleges. He said there are even hundreds of people who have been working as raw employees for 20 years in the government residences and camp offices of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Ministers, who have been forced to exploit financially at the hands of private contractors through outsourcing, instead of regularising them.

Meet Hayer asked the Channi government to clarify whether the 36,000 unskilled workers being regularised include outsourced employees working in all departments. The government should also explain why it does not decide on regular jobs for the unemployed who are on the roads, at the intersections and on the tanks. The government should also explain why the Congress could not pay the unemployment allowance of Rs 2,500 per month to the unemployed as promised, he said. The AAP leaders said that the issue of unemployment, guest faculty teachers and outsourced workers would also be taken up in the House on November 11.
