— Recalls the glorious past of Punjab by paying tributes to the Martyrs at Asafwala War Memorial

Punjab Governer, Banwari Lal Purohit has called for the need to unite to make the Nation, Vishva Guru again by strengthening the Punjab. He was addressing the people of the border villages at the Asafwala War Memorial near the International border, today.
Cautioning the residents of nefarious plans of the neighboring country to destabilize our hard earned peace, the Governor said that only the unity of the people can foil the bids of the across the border tricks to weaken us. We need to be more alert to guard the anti Nation activities and to help the country and administration by strengthening the village defence committees. He said that Pakistan has now accepted this truth that he cannot initiate a direct war with India, so through the intrusion of drugs they want to weaken us but if the people remain vigilant of the vicious designs of the neighboring country, we can defeat them in this cold war.
He said that thousands of years ago, we were known as Vishwa Gurus but now the time has come again that we all work together to restore our pristine glory and make our country a world power. But this goal can only be achieved by working sincerely for our country. He also said that we have to identify the traitors within us who supply drugs.
Banwari Lal Purohit further said that the police are doing their work diligently but if the village defence committees formed in the border villages put on more alert, the enemies of the society/country can be easily eliminated.
Recalling the glorious history of Punjab, the Governer said that Punjab is always ahead in every field, but we have to keep it as front runner always. Saluting the hard work of the farmers of Punjab, he said that they have made the country self-reliant in the production of grain. But at the same time, everyone has to work together to fight the challenge of addiction posed by drugs. He appealed to the people of the border villages that if there is a drug addict in their village, get him treated and if someone sells drugs, report him to the police. He said that the information given by the people should be kept confidential. He said that drugs are not only a problem of Punjab, it is also spreading in Haryana and other states.
Before this, he paid floral tributes to the martyrs of the 1971 Indo-Pak War at the Martyrs’ Samadhi and saw the memorial built, here. He also went among the villagers and listened to their problems. Apart from this, he also witnessed the Trinjan organized by the female students, exhibition stalls of self-help groups besides meeting district players. He also met the youth of the border villages who recently got recruited to the army.
Earlier, upon reaching the Program venue, Punjab Chief Secretary, Anurag Verma welcomed the Governor formally and assured that no stone will leave unturned to maintain peace as per the directions given by him. Deputy Commissioner Mrs (Dr.) Senu Duggal thanked the Governor Punjab and other guests who attended the event.
DGP of Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, Additional Chief Secretary, K Shiva Prasad, Special Secretary Home, Varinder Kumar Sharma also accompanied the Governor. MLA Sandeep Jakhar, Commissioner Ferozepur Division, Daljit Singh Mangat, DIG Ferozepur Range, Ranjit Singh were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner Mrs (Dr) Senu Duggal and SSP Manjit Singh Dhesi welcomed him upon reaching at the District Administrative Complex, while the Martyrs’ Samadhi Committee led by Sandeep Gilhotra also welcomed Governor Punjab. After this, he held a meeting with the civil administration and security agencies at the district administrative complex.
