Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh, witnessed the grand celebration of Lohri today on 12th January, 2023. This festival of Northern Region symbolizes the ripening of winter crops as well as the start of a new harvesting season.
The festival was celebrated in the football ground of the institute. Director of PEC Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, lit the bonfire along with PEC staff members who are superannuating this year, making it a grand event in the presence of Registrar Col. R.M. Joshi, Dr. D.R. Prajapati (DSA) and all the other faculty & staff members from various departments of the institutions.
After lighting the bonfire, PEC faculty members and staff performed parikrama around the bonfire while offering sesame seeds, jaggery, gajak and peanuts. The celebrations continued with people singing and dancing to traditional folk songs.
Attendees exchanged heartfelt wishes, relished traditional sweets, and embraced the spirit of unity. The celebration not only highlighted the diversity of the PEC community but also fostered a sense of camaraderie. Lohri at Punjab Engineering College became a memorable blend of tradition and togetherness.
