REITERATES COMMITMENT TO MAKE LUDHIANA A DRUG-FREE CITY BY FURTHER INTENSIFYING EFFORTS AGAINST DRUGS

Continuing its drive against the drug peddlers in the city, Ludhiana Commissionerate Police today bust an inter-state gang involved in supply of Ganja with arrest of three smugglers and recovery of 2.88 quintals of Ganja from them which was being pumped into Punjab from Odisha.

Divulging more details, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that on a tip off CIA Staff-I had laid a trap on GT Road Sahnewal when they stopped a truck bearing number QR 11 J 5919 coming from Mandi Gobindgarh side. He said that on the search of the truck in presence of ACP Detective Harbinder Singh, the Police recovered 2.88 quintal Ganja packed in16 bags having 18 kg Ganja in each bag.  Mr Bhullar said that Driver Karamjit Singh alias Pammi, Truck owner Manpreet Singh Gora, both residents of Pind Rasulpur Mallan, and Kundan Kumar from District Sitamarhi, Bihar were apprehended on the spot.

The Commissioner of Police said that during the investigation the accused revealed that he had been carrying out this smuggling network in the garb of transportation business. Accused Karamjit and Manpreet delivered iron goods including bi-cycles to Kattak, Odisha; from there, they loaded raw iron material in their truck for delivery into Mandi Gobindgarh, the CP said adding that meanwhile accused Kundan joined them with a contingent of Ganja from Bari Patta area which was to be delivered in Ludhiana.  He further mentioned that the accused were to get Rs. One lakh in lieu of delivering Ganja at Ludhiana and accused Kundan had to deliver these baggage on the directions of his associate Lal Babu Rai, who had sent Kundan along with the truck to supply this Ganja here at the cost of Rs. 10 lakh per quintal.

Mr. Bhullar said that the accused Kamajit Singh was earlier also booked in a murder case and had been lodged in the jail for a period of four years. He said that a case under NDPS act has been registered against the accused besides reiterating that the severest of severe action will be ensured against persons involved in the heinous trade of drugs.
