Appealed the neighboring states for special checkpoints and vigilance in the adjoining districts of Punjab to prevent influx of illicit liquor, cash and weapons into Punjab
Coordination meeting as per the directions of ECI

On the instructions of Election Commission of India, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab and in view of forthcoming Assembly elections in Punjab Mr. Manvesh Singh Sidhu, Commissioner, Rupnagar Division today had an online meeting through video conferencing with the senior officials of Civil and Police administration of the neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana from District Administrative Complex SAS Nagar. The agenda of the meeting was law and order issue in view of the forthcoming assembly elections in Punjab and seeking coordination from the Civil and Police administration of the neighbouring states.
Prominent amongst those who attended the meeting from District Administrative Complex SAS Nagar included Mr. Arun Kumar Mittal IG Police Range Rupnagar, Mrs. Isha Kalia Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar, Mrs. Sonali Giri Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar, Mr. Vishesh Sarangal Deputy Commissioner SBS Nagar, Mr. Viveksheel Soni SSP Rupnagar , Mrs. Kanwar Deep Kaur SSP SBS Nagar, Mrs. Komal Mittal ADC SAS Nagar, Mr. Wazir Singh SP (D) SAS Nagar besides officials from election Commission.
At the outset of the meeting Mr. Manvesh Singh Sidhu, Commissioner Rupnagar Division sought the cooperation of the neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana for maintaining security and law & order situation in view of the forthcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
He said that as per the guidlines of ECI, the Civil and Police Administration of these states should liaise with the concerned authorities of Punjab to prevent the influx of illicit liquor, cash and weapons during the elections process in Punjab from the border districts. He said that after the implementation of Election Code of Conduct it would also be the responsibility of these border states to ensure that illicit cash and arms were not smuggled into Punjab from their districts bordering Punjab. Mr. Manvesh Sidhu said that the officials of Civil and Police administration of these neighboring states should work with the Punjab authorities to formulate a joint strategy. Mr. Sidhu also requested the authorities of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana to appoint and share the details of nodal officers of IT, excise, police and civil department for better interstate coordination.
During the meeting Mrs. Isha Kalia Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar informed that the boundaries of SAS Nagar district are adjoining with the Ambala and Panchkula districts of Haryana state, Solan district of Himachal Pradesh and UT Chandigarh. She informed that at present 48 inter-state Nakas have been set up by SAS administration adding that there was a risk of illicit liquor and weapons coming from these neighboring states during the elections, which required co-operation with the authorities of these states.
Similarly during the meeting Mrs. Sonali Giri Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar informed that the borders of Rupnagar district are with the Solan, Bilaspur and Una districts of Himachal Pradesh which necessitated close coordination and joint operation by both these states for smooth conduct of election process.
