CHANDIGARH 04 DEC 2021

The NSS units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the college’s Character Building Committee, organised an awareness programme to mark the celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities. As part of the programme, volunteers prepared and displayed posters regarding the problems faced by disabled people and the solutions to those problems. The volunteers educated the students about the importance of observance of this day as a way to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society. Interacting with other college students, the volunteers sensitised them about the difficulties faced by persons with disabilities. They also spread awareness about the unjust treatment meted out to the disabled persons in various spheres of life including political, social, economic and cultural, and encouraged the youth to adopt an impartial and positive outlook towards such persons. The programme received enthusiastic response as students resolved to work towards creation of a just and equitable society.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded this endeavour to inculcate an empathetic attitude among students towards the persons with disabilities by educating them about the problems faced by these persons. She added that for a just and equitable society, it is imperative that the youth come forward to work towards betterment of various sections of the society.
