MCM holds online workshop on compost

CHANDIGARH 12 -JULY -2021 

Swachhta Committee (Arts) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with MCM Eco Club, organised an online workshop on the topic ‘How Food Residue can be turned to Compost’. Organised as a part of the 75-week long celebration of Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav, the workshop had Mrs. Saranjeet Kaur, Eco Club Incharge, Bhavan Vidyalaya Junior, Chandigarh as the resource person. The workshop received enthusiastic response as staff and students joined in to gain knowledge regarding compost making. Mrs. Saranjeet shed light on the step by step process of making compost at home including pit making, layering the pit and also highlighted the things that should not be put in these pits like onion peels or anything citrus. Throughout her informative lecture, Mrs. Saranjeet reminded the participants of their responsibility towards the environment and advocated adoption of sustainable practices in everyday life. The workshop was well received by the participants, whose queries were suitably answered by the expert.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded the efforts of the college’s Swachhta Committee and Eco Club for promotion of sustainable practices. She informed that MCM is an environmentally conscious institution and its initiatives like compost making, vermicomposting, biogas production from mess food waste, installation of sewage treatment plant, rain water harvesting and harnessing of solar power are reflective of MCM’s commitment to the cause of environmental conservation.
