MCM holds online workshop on paper recycling

CHANDIGARH 24 JULY 2021 

The Department of Environment Science at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, organised an online hands-on workshop on ‘Paper Recycling, Paper Pencil Making and Seed Balls Making’ to mark the celebration of annual festival Van Mahotsav. The objective of the workshop was to promote increased paper recovery and reuse by raising awareness about the importance of recycling and to create awareness about the significance of the plantation for a clean, green and healthy environment. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Shafila, Department of Environment Science. Dr. Shafila demonstrated step-wise procedure of handmade paper making from waste papers that could be used for various purposes like canvas for painting, making bookmarks, decorative envelopes etc. She also explained the steps for making paper pencils using the material normally available at home. Additionally, the concept of seed balls making was introduced to the participants. Throughout the workshop, Dr.Shafila highlighted the importance of 3 R’s i.e. reduce, reuse and recycle for environment conservation. Participants enthusiastically learnt the process of paper recycling and resolved to adopt such measures for environmental conservation.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava expressed appreciation for this initiative of the Environment Science Department and highlighted its importance for the environment saying that recycling paper saves trees, reduces air pollutants and saves water. She added that such  awareness workshops are highly significant to bring about behavioural change with respect to adoption of sustainable practices.
