MCM holds social outreach workshop- Expressions

The Sustainable Practices Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised ‘Expressions: An Introspective Analysis through Storytelling’ at DAV School, Sector 39, Chandigarh. The workshop was a part of social sustainability initiatives of the college wherein the faculty of the college aimed to share their interdisciplinary knowledge with the school children and teachers. Dr. Anubhuti Sharma from the college’s Department of Psychology and Ms. Sunita Kumari from the college’s Department of Hindi were the resource persons. Dr. Anubhuti Sharma apprised the teachers about the procedure of child development that takes place in stages. She explained the various areas of psychological growth that are vital for maintaining a fully functioning personality. Ms. Sunita Kumari narrated Munshi Premchand’s story- Eidgaah, that has many elements of child psychology. Ms. Sunita explained the thought process of child characters in the story to teachers. The children were also asked some questions based on the story. Thereafter, Dr. Anubhuti had a discussion with the students about their understanding of the story and their answers on various areas were recorded. The teachers were then engaged in the understanding of the children’s responses and their underlying meanings were reflected upon. Dr. Gurvinder Kaur, Coordinator, Sustainable Practices Committee, concluded the workshop by urging the school teachers to adopt story telling as a strategy to understand students. She also emphasised the use of stories as a way to sustain culture. Dr. Reena Singh, Principal, DAV School thanked Dr. Nisha Bhargava, Principal, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women for her able guidance in getting the workshop organised in the school.
Lauding this initiative, Dr. Bhargava said that for ensuring success of the teaching-learning processes, it is immensely important to understand the learners’ psychology. She informed that the college’s Sustainable Practices Committee is working dedicatedly for promoting sustainable practices through endeavours like these.
