In collaborative endeavours aiming to promote innovation and entrepreneurial acumen in the discipline of Physics, the Department of Physics under the aegis of Institution Innovation Council (IIC) of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised webinars on ‘Physics: Innovation, Startup and Entrepreneurship’ and ‘Awareness on IPR, IP Management and Legal Framework’. The speaker for the webinar on ‘Physics: Innovation, Startup and Entrepreneurship’ was Dr. Ashim Saha, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Navariti Innovation and, Director and Co-Founder, Tervis Medical Systems Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad, Telangana, and for ‘Awareness on IPR, IP Management and Legal Framework’ was Mr. Nitish Agarwal, Examiner of Patents and Designs, Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and TradeMarks, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Dr. Ashim Saha shed light on the role of Physical Science in the evolution of modern technology, the structure and dynamics of start-up based on Physical Science and the key skills required to be a successful entrepreneur. A total of 76 participants participated in the webinar. During the webinar on ‘Awareness on IPR, IP Management and Legal Framework’, Mr. Nitish Agarwal highlighted the importance of patents in today’s innovative world. The participants got to know about the different types of intellectual property rights and why awareness on IP rights is absolutely crucial for inventors. The speaker familiarised participants with the concept and importance of patents, trademarks, geographical indicators and some legal cases. Over 127 participants benefited from the webinar.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava highlighted the significant role of Physics in bringing about major breakthroughs and new technologies in research and development including different areas such as medical devices, alternative energy sources, communications, etc., and expressed appreciation for these meaningful initiatives to promote innovation in this important discipline. She lauded the consistent efforts of the IIC to systematically promote the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students.
