MCM hosts internationally acclaimed author Dr. Tabish Khair in an online talk

The Research Centre, PG Department of English at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh organised an online talk on ‘Roots and Routes: An enquiry into reportage, representation and creative writing’. Internationally acclaimed author, academician and journalist Dr. Tabish Khair was the resource person for this enlightening talk. Dr. Khair touched upon the aspects of reportage and representation in the field of creative writing. He discussed the travel texts of Dean Mahomet and Abu Taleb Khan to showcase the same, followed by authors like Sarojini Naidu, Raja Rao, Henry Derozio and a few others to give a post colonial perspective of reportage. He also talked about the relationship between a writer, what is represented and how it is represented through their creative writing. The topic of roots of a writer and the routes that are undertaken, was taken up in various ways throughout the session. The participants found the talk highly engrossing and also shared their queries and thoughts on the topic of discussion.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava lauded this initiative of English Department’s Research Centre to take the students on an enlightening journey of exploration of the intricacies of creative writing and the interlinkages between reportage, representation and creative writing. She expressed hope that the participants will benefit from the expertise of Dr. Tabish Khair and learn the nuances of reportage and creative writing.
