MCM makes its mark in gymnastics and malkhambh championships at PU

In keeping with its reputation as an institution with laudable accomplishments in sports, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh performed outstandingly in various championships organised by Panjab University, Chandigarh. In a historic achievement, the college’s Rhythmic Gymnastics Team won the Panjab University Inter College Rhythmic Competition 2022 for the fifth year in succession. Adding glory to the winning spree, the college’s gymnast Debopriya was adjudged the Best Gymnast during the competition. Debopriya grabbed this title by winning two individual gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal. Further, the college team bagged second position in Panjab University Inter College Competition. Tamanna was declared the second Best Gymnast in the Artistic Gymnastics Competition as she won silver medals in all the events. These gymnasts also won the Malkhamb Championship held at the University. The ‘Malkhamb’ player was declared the best ‘Malkhamb’ performer in the competition.
Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava informed that the college has an inimitable track record in sports, with the college winning Panjab University Women’s Sports General Efficiency Shield for a record 39 times. She added that the college is proud to have produced many notable sportspersons including cricketers Taniya Bhatia, Riddhima and Harleen Deol.
