The Study for preparation of Alternatives Analysis Report (AAR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for phase -1 MRTS network of Tri-City (Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali) was allotted to M/s RITES Ltd. The Traffic & System Selection Report was submitted by RITES Ltd. in December, 2023.
RITES team made a presentation on the Traffic & System Selection report submitted in December 2023 covering the following major aspects on Study Progress, Study Area & its population, Primary Surveys, Travel Demand Model Inputs & Structure, Proposed MRTS Phase-I Network, Ridership Estimates – PHPDT & Daily, ridership, Discussions/Decisions at Meeting with MOHUA, System Selection and recommended Parameters and Depot Locations. RITES presented the modified Alignment near Railway Station along proposed Metro Corridor – 1 and Connection of Zirakpur to Panchkula via proposed Metro Corridor 2. In principle, all stakeholders are agreed on these suggested modifications.
Worthy Adviser to the Administrator has advised that formal confirmation in this regard will be done in the next meeting of UMTA. As desired by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Urban Planning Department, U.T., Chandigarh will submit the relevant Acts, Legislation etc. regarding the Heritage aspects for not allowing construction of elevated structures in Chandigarh to them. During the meeting held on 15.01.2024 the Ministry has advised to consider two coach Metro System for the proposed MRTS network in Chandigarh Tri-City instead of Metrolite. This has been agreed by all stakeholders of Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana. Regarding confirmation on Depot land of about 21 Hectare at New Chandigarh near Paroul, the officers of Punjab apprised that this land is delisted PLP Land (Punjab Land Preservation Act).
They will re-examine the possibility of making this land parcel available for proposed Metro Depot. Worthy Adviser to the Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh asked them if this land parcel is not made available then an alternate land parcel satisfying the technical requirements for Metro Depot shall be identified and informed to RITES under intimation to Chandigarh Administration at the earliest so that further work can be carried out accordingly by RITES.
