Ministry of Road Transport and Highways launches scheme

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has launched the Good Samaritan Scheme to bring down the death rate due to increasing number of road accidents in the country. Under this scheme, a cash incentive of Rs 5000 and a citation will be given to the Good Samaritan (good person) who has done the work of saving a person seriously injured in a motor vehicle road accident. This scheme has been named as Incentive Award.
Additional Director General of Police, (PTRI) Police Training and Research Institute Shri G. Janardhan said that if a Good Samaritan (good person) save a person injured seriously in a motor vehicle road accident by rushing him directly to the hospital/trauma care center, then the local police will be informed about that person by the doctor. A copy will be sent to the Good Samaritan and one copy to the District Appraisal Committee along with the Good Samaritan’s full address, details of the incident, mobile number etc. on an authorized letter pad in the prescribed format. If a good Samaritan saves someone’s life by taking him to the hospital/trauma care center and informing the police directly, a copy will be sent to the Good Samaritan by the police with their full address, details of the incident in the prescribed format and a copy will be sent to the District Appraisal Committee. A District Appraisal Committee will be constituted at the district level under the chairmanship of the District Collector to examine such cases, with the Superintendent of Police, Chief Medical Officer and District Transport Officer and members.
