Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh

Maluka says CM and ministers busy at their farm houses, farmers left to their fate at crucial hour

Chandigarh, June 16, : The Shiromani Akali Dal today lashed out at the Amarinder Singh led Congress government for its complete mismanagement of power supply for paddy season which could lead to devastating results for the State.

In a statement issued here today, former  Minister and  SAD Kisan Wing President Sikander Singh Maluka said it was condemnable that the Congress government could not ensure regular power supply to farmers even during the first five days of the paddy transplantation season.  He said leave aside supplying eight hour power supply as per commitment, farmers were not getting supply since last three days in many parts of the state.

Mr Sikander Maluka  said the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) had miserably failed to maintain supply system in state. He said farmers were sitting in dharnas in front of PSPCL offices for not restoring supply after disruptions. He said that it was  shocking that to PSPCL did not have transformers and cables  for restoration of power supply in many parts of the State. Mr Maluka said though staff of the PSPCL had sounded an alert about lack of equipment prior to beginning of paddy season the Congress government did not act and instead issued denials and claimed that everything was available. “Now the lies of the government are in public domain as non availability of material is visible to everyone”

Mr. Maluka said the Congress government had also failed to provide power for households in rural areas. He said people were forced to install poles uprooted during thunder storm as PSPCL failed to reply to repeated complaints of people. He said lack of staff was also contributing to worsening of crisis. He said that the Congress came to power with slogan of ghar ghar naukri but government departments like PSPCL were crying for recruiting staff needed for technical matters. He said that instead of making new recruitments, this government has abolished thousands of posts in name of restructuring.

Asking Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh to wake up from his slumber and start working for restoration of system without any further delay, the SAD leader said it this was not done there was danger of the entire transmission system collapsing. EOM
