Mohali to host its first  ‘SARAS Mela’ from Feb 16 at Sector 88, says DC Aashika Jain

DC constitutes Various committees to ensure smooth and  successful conduct of ‘Saras Mela’

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar will host the  ‘Saras Mela’ which is known for its many a distinction, in the country and abroad for the first time at Mohali.
Disclosing this, the Deputy Commissioner Mrs Aashika Jain said that our district has got the opportunity for the first time to host this fair which is held in big cities of the country. The Deputy Commissioner said that the fair will be held at Sector 88 from February 16 to February 25, 2024, in which artists, artisans, traders and skilled people from many states will participate, while thousands of people will visit for shopping and entertainment every day. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the Punjab government for giving the opportunity to host this event.
The Deputy Commissioner has constituted various committees of the higher officials of the district to carry out the arrangements of this ‘Saras Mela’ in a smooth manner and on time. The duties have been assigned to discuss different officials.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development)-cum-Mela Nodal Officer Mrs Sonam Chaudhary said that artists and artisans from different states are likely to arrive in this mela. Between 300 to 350 stalls (shops) will be set up at the fair, which will also include food stalls. Food stalls and cuisines of different states will also be the center of special attraction during the fair. Swings will be arranged for children’s entertainment. Apart from this, the colors of their heritage and cultural art will also be showcased by artists from different states. She said that preparations have been started to make the fair a success so that no stone could be left in its smooth running.
She said that Ms Harveer Kaur (PCS (UT)) and District Development and Panchayat Officer Amarinder Pal Singh Chauhan have been appointed as Assistant Mela Nodal Officers by Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Aashika Jain.
Among the committees formed for the arrangements of the fair, the Executive Committee and the Purchase Committee will be led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Viraj S Tidke. Site Selection/Planning and Development Committee and Publicity/Advertisement Committee will be headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Mrs Sonam Chaudhary.
A committee on stay arrangements has been constituted under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Administrator, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, Amarinder Singh Tiwana. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Damanjit Singh Mann will head the Entertainment Committee, Sponsorship Committee and Printing and Designing of Invitation/Souvenir/Flex/Ticket/ID Card etc Committee.
Meeting of site selection/planning and development committee was held today by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development)-cum-Mela Nodal Officer Mrs Sonam Chaudhary, in which Assistant Commissioner (Under-Training) Davy Goyal, Estate Officer GMADA Harbans Singh, DDPO Amarinder Pal Singh Chauhan, Executive Engineer GMADA Avdeep Singh and Ms Rajyia, Assistant Town Planner GMADA participated. During the meeting, the site plan which includes map, stalls, stage, parking, swings, toilets and water besides electricity arrangement, inspection of tents and distribution of stalls were discussed minutely so that the arrangements could be ensured in time.
