STATUE OF BHAI MAHARAJ SINGH TO BE INSTALLED ON AUGUST 15- MLA LAKHVIR SINGH LAKHA
HAND OVER A GRANT OF RS 5 LAKH FOR CIVIC WORKS IN VILLAGE TO PANCHAYAT
Rabbon Uchi (LUDHIANA) 5 July 2021 Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr. Amar Singh on Monday paid rich tributes to the legendary Sikh Revolutionary Baba Maharaj Singh who led an anti-British movement in Punjab after the first Anglo-Sikh war and exhorted the people to strive for unity and integrity of the nation and follow the path shown by the first Sikh martyr of the independence struggle.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a brief function to pay tributes to Baba Maharaj Singh on his 165th martyrdom day in Rabbon Uchi village of Ludhiana, accompanied by MLAs Lakhvir Singh Lakha, Amrik Singh Dhillon, Fatehgarh Sahib MP said that Baba Maharaj Singh was a great patriot who sacrificed his life for the sake of the freedom of the country. He said attempts were made to portray the 1857 revolt as the beginning of the freedom movement of the country but the history proved fact that Baba Maharaj Singh had started the struggle for independence at the very time when he tried to free the last Sikh ruler Maharaja Dalip Singh from the clutches of the British.
But, the British got tip-off of the plans made by Baba Maharaj Singh in league with his comrades and imprisoned and sent him to Singapore where he suffered innumerable hardships and was martyred on July 5, 1856, he added.
MP further said that he would take up the matter of Baabarpur-Uchi Rabbon road to be included in Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojna with the Union Government and claimed that it would be one of the best road in the state.
MLA Lakhvir Singh Lakha said that the statue of Bhai Maharaj Singh would be installed on August 15 besides added that he has demanded a special grant of Rs 1 crore for the all-around development of the village from Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
Later, MP and MLA handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh for development works in the historic village.
