New draft of Bhopal Master Plan will be prepared considering the population of 2047

Urban Development Minister Shri Vijayvargiya invited suggestions from public representatives

Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya has said that the master plan of the capital Bhopal will be prepared on the basis of suggestions given by public representatives. This master plan will be prepared taking into consideration the projected population for the year 2047. He said that all necessary provisions will be made for the well-organised development of the capital and for the citizens to get all the basic facilities easily. Urban Development Minister Shri Vijayvargiya was addressing the meeting convened in the Mantralaya today regarding the draft of Bhopal Master Plan. Minister of State for Backward Classes and Minority Welfare (Independent Charge) Smt. Krishna Gaur, Bhopal Mayor Smt. Malti Rai, Member of Parliment Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, MLA Shri Rameshwar Sharma, Shri Bhagwandas Sabnani, Shri Atif Akil, former MLA Shri Dhruv Narayan Singh, former Corporation Chairman Shri Shailendra Sharma and Principal Secretary Shri Neeraj Mandloi were also present in the meeting.

Urban Development Minister Shri Vijayvargiya said that the lakes of Bhopal, especially the Upper Lake, are considered the lifeline of the capital and remain a centre of special attraction for the tourists visiting Bhopal. Provisions will be made in the master plan to preserve the lakes and the archaeological heritage of Bhopal. He told the public representatives that a separate traffic plan will be prepared for Bhopal. In this, special attention will be paid to adequate width of roads, fly-overs and expansion of metro service.

Main points of decision taken for master plan

  • A fresh draft of Bhopal Master Plan will be prepared.

  • The entire process will be completed by December-2024.

  • Keeping in mind more than 5 thousand objections received in the earlier draft of the master plan, the new draft will be published in May-2024.

  • A special campaign will be run till August 2024 to make 30 percent compounding on cash payment.

  • The new master plan will now be made based on the needs up to the year 2047 instead of the year 2031.

The presentation of the master plan was given by Commissioner Town and Country Planning Shri Shrikant Bhanot and Joint Director Smt. Sunita Singh. On the basis of the presentation, the public representatives gave necessary suggestions.
