‘Stories of great freedom fighters’ martyrdom should be recited to youth of India to create passion for patriotism’, says OP Dhankar*
Chandigarh / Hussainiwala, March 19
As a part of ‘Mera Rang De Basanti Chola’ campaign, which is dedicated to the Amrit Mahhostav being observed nationally by the union government, Bharatiya Janata Party state president for Haryana OP Dhankar led the Shaeed Naman Yatra at Ferozepur on Saturday.
The two-day yatra began by remembering the contribution of the freedom fighters at the National Martyrs Memorial, Hussainiwala, Punjab.
The BJP is holding various events to commemorate Shaheed Divas, which is marked every year on March 23, the day when three freedom fighters – Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev – were hanged to death by the British in the Lahore Jail.
While addressing the party workers, Dhankar said, “The people of India need to remember the contribution of revolutionaries in the freedom struggle. Rajguru was just 22 years old when he got martyred for the county while Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev were 23. At this young age, they were true lovers of the country. It is our responsibility to share their heroic stories with today’s youth so that they can also remember their sacrifice and respect their country.”
He added, “This yatra will not only educate the youth about the sacrifices of three great fighters but will also create passion for patriotism among youths.”
The party workers also sang ‘Mera Rang de Basanti Chola’ in remembrance of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
After addressing the gathering, Dhankar took the ‘Balidan Mitti’ (sacrifice soil), which will be used to put tilak on forehead of thousands of young people on March 23.
The yatra will reach Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar on Sunday.
During the yatra, Dhankar is accompanied by State General Secretaries Pawan Saini, Mohan Lal Badoli, Ved Pal ; State Media Incharge Sanjay Sharma, State President BJYM Rahula Rana and youth workers.
