The orientation program on Substance Use Disorders was organized by Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) Club under the aegis of the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Sector 36-A, Chandigarh in association with Drug De-Addiction Treatment Centre (DDTC), PGIMER, Chandigarh. The event aimed to raise awareness about substance abuse and its detrimental effects on individuals and society. The inaugural session was conducted by Dr. Debasish Basu, Professor & Head, (DDTC & Department of Psychiatry, PGIMER, Chandigarh, and during the event insightful sessions were conducted by experts including Dr. Renjith R. Pillai, Associate Professor, Dr. Chahat Jamwal, Senior Resident, Dr. O. P. Giri, Medical Social Worker, Dr. Devender Rana, Assistant Professor, Dr. Rahul Chakarvarthy, Senior Consultant, Tele Manas from the Drug De-Addiction Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The participants gained knowledge about identifying signs of addiction, understanding the physiological and psychological aspects of substance use disorders, and exploring available treatment options. The interactive nature of sessions encouraged active engagement, fostering a sense of responsibility among attendees to address substance use disorder issues with their communities. The principal of the College Dr. Nisha Bhargava appreciated the efforts of VADA Club to promote a drug-free environment and partnering with reputable institutions which exemplifies its dedication to the well-being of the college community. She thanked the resource persons for providing fact-based knowledge to drive home the need to steer clear of substance abuse.
