YAD announces establishment of Plasma Bank
Says centre and Punjab govt equally responsible for rise in Covid cases as well as fatalities
Chandigarh, April 30 , 2021 – The Youth Akali Dal (YAD) today announced it had established Plasma bank in the State and had got 200 donors on board and would start the process of plasma donation immediately.
Disclosing this, YAD President Parambans Singh Romana said the Bank, which had been established following an appeal by SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal, would be enlarged by reaching out to all eligible donors. He disclosed that SAD leaders including former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who had tested positive for Covid earlier, had registered for the initiative.
Mr Parambans Romana said the name of the donors along with their blood groups and telephone numbers would be advertised appropriately. He simultaneously released three telephone numbers – 99080 00013, 97791 – 71507 and 84275 44763 which could be contacted for availing the services of the Plasma Bank. Mr Romana said patients requiring Plasma could also tag him on twitter and he would respond appropriately. “The YAD will do its best to ensure that no life is lost due to lack of availability of Plasma”.
Meanwhile Mr Romana said the central as well as the Punjab government were equally responsible for the rise in Covid cases as well as fatalities. He said it was unfortunate that the Prime Minister and the Union health minister had chosen to focus on elections in several States instead of boosting the health infrastructure. “The BJP led government was more concerned about conducting rallies in poll bound States which acted as super-spreaders. Besides this, precious time was lost in arranging for medicines and vaccine allowing the virus to rebound with devastating results”.
Speaking about the role of the Punjab government, Mr Romana said chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh had failed to lead from the front. “The chief minister has locked himself at his farm house for more than one year. The cabinet ministers have followed the chief minister’s example due to which no effective counter measure has been taken to stop the spread of the pandemic in Punjab. The figures speak for themselves. There have been more than 9,000 Covid related deaths in Punjab. The State’s case fatality ratio is double of the national average at 2.4 per cent. The fatality ratio is even more in rural areas at 2.8 per cent. More than hundred persons are succumbing to the virus on a daily basis”.
Asserting that the Congress government had not learnt a lesson even now, the YAD President said instead of tackling Covid, chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and former minister Navjot Sidhu were fighting for the top post. “The other ministers have also joined the slug fest and it seems there is no government in Punjab. There is no one to regulate the supply of oxygen, medicines or even vaccines due to which Punjab is the worst affected State in the country as far a Covid pandemic is concerned”.
Mr Romana said even as the Congress government had abdicated its duty, various NGOs and religious organizations were coming to the rescue of Covid patients. He said both the SGPC and the DSGMC were engaged in mitigating the suffering of Covid patients and their families. “The centre and the Congress government in Punjab should also understand its responsibilities and take corrective action immediately”, Mr Romana added.
