PEC Celebrated 75th Republic Day with Grandeur & Gaiety

Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh today celebrated the 75th Republic Day with zeal and enthusiasm. The event commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, Director of PEC, followed by the singing of the National Anthem at the PEC campus in the presence of the students, faculty, staff members and PEC residents. The event continued with a very synchronized parade by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) that filled the air with patriotic spirits. This year’s 75th Republic Day is based on the themes of ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Bharat – Loktantra Ki Matruka’.

Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, Director of PEC, congratulated all the attendees on the 75th Republic Day Celebrations. He said, today the whole nation is celebrating this auspicious day with pride and joyfulness. He shared the role played by our freedom fighters for making our country an Independent India in 1947 and as we talk about the history of Republic Day, we’re taken back in to time of 26th January, 1950, to a pivotal moment which transformed the nation, as the Indian Constitution came into effect, signifying a monumental shift from constitutional monarchy to a Republic. We must always remain grateful to our freedom fighters who fought for this freedom. He expressed his gratitude in the quote,

“Vatan Ko Kahin Girvi na Rakh Dena, Vatan Walon; 

Shaheedon ne Badi Mushkil se ye Karze Chukayein Hain.” 

He said, that the Indian Constitution is the World’s longest written constitution. We must feel proud to have this constitution and democracy at large. He also talked about the theme of this 75th Republic Day, that this year the theme is ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Bharat – Loktantra Ki Matruka’. Working on the Vision of PM Sh. Narendra Modi to have Viksit Bharat @2047 (100 years of Independence). We are the 5th largest economy of the world. But our democracy and economy is no less than being first in many aspects. We are the 4th biggest power. 3rd in the defense category with the largest army in the entire world. Our nation has plenty of natural Resources. Our Scientists developed the vaccine during tough times of COVID-19. Still we are working for the vision of fully developed India in 2047. He quoted Rabindranath Tagore, ”Where the mind is without fear, Where knowledge is free, Where the world has not been broken up into fragments, By narrow domestic walls, Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.” Lastly, he also talked about the various achievements gained by PEC Faculty and the number of developments held at the institutions. And he once again congratulated everyone with Jai Hind !!

The celebrations continued with cultural events and various clubs performed with all their heart. On the beats of patriotic songs and poetries, the whole campus was filled with the spirit of nationhood and patriotism. Remarkable speeches by various students of cultural and language clubs of the Institute. Performances of Punjabi Dance Bhangra filled the aura of PEC Campus with true spirits of Nationalism. Afterwards, 10 members of faculty and staff were awarded with Commendation Certificates with a memento & cash prizes by the honorable Director of PEC Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia along with Registrar Col. (Veteran) R.M. Joshi. An exhibition of small mechanical experiments and robots were also placed which shows the talent and expertise of the PEC students.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the audience singing the National Anthem with a patriotic spirit.

The celebrations ended with the distribution of tea, sweets and snacks to all the faculty members, students and staff.
