The Department of Electrical Engineering of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh today inaugurated the 3-day workshop on Emerging Development, Challenges and Opportunities Ahead in Indian Power Sector for Viksit Bharat @2047 from 21st February, 2024 to 23rd February, 2024.
The Chief Guest of the Inaugural Session was Shri. Manoj Tripathi, Chairman BBMB; Keynote Speaker Prof. S. P. Singh, from IIT Roorkee; Esteemed Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia along with Prof. Rintu Khanna (Head, Electrical Engineering Department) graced the occasion with their esteemed presence. This workshop is coordinated by Dr. Manohar Singh (Associate Professor, EED) and Co-coordinated by Dr. Ajay Kumar (Assistant Professor, EED). The session started out with the floral welcome of guests, followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the esteemed guests. All the distinguished guests from Power departments of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and faculty members from different technical institutes, PEC Faculty, deans, HoDs and Students were present at this occasion.
In the initial address, Prof. Rintu Khanna, (Head, EED) welcomed the worthy dignitaries for gracing the event. She introduced the Electrical Department, on academic and research fronts, lab facilities and routine conference & workshop events.
Prof. Manohar Singh (Associate Professor, EED) talked about the 3-day workshop on Emerging Development, Challenges and Opportunities Ahead in the Indian Power Sector. He highlighted the importance of this workshop and introduced the audience with different technical tracks scheduled during the event on various emerging & challenging issues of Indian Power Sector for Viksit Bharat@2047. During this event, the speakers are invited from CEA, Ministry of Power, MNRE, IIT, Grid Controller of India, GE, NTPC, DTL and PEC Faculty.
Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, congratulated the department for this initiative. He talked about the 4A’s of Power – Availability of Power; Accessibility of Power; Acceptability of Power and Accountability of Power. He highlighted the various challenges of the power sector in tangible and intangible terms and its impact on environment & society. He also shared his experience on the ecological impact of the thermal power plants on local habitations.
Prof. S. P. Singh highlighted the emerging issues in Planning, Challenges and Future of Hydel Potential in India as Sustainable power.
Chief Guest of the session, Shri. Manoj Tripathi, discussed the various challenges on planning of generation, transmission and distribution. He also shared the Hydel Planning and Pumped Hydro Storage plan of BBMB in harnessing the Hydel Potential as a sustainable & eco-green resource of power for long term hydel power generation. He also highlighted that BBMB is running multipurpose projects to serve the nation in irrigation, clean drinking water, flood cushion and sustainable & promising power generation assets for the country. The BBMB is exclusively planning the pumped hydro and floating solar at Nangal and Pong Hydro Reservoirs. He advocated a strong collaboration between academia and the power industry is crucial for effective planning of the power sector for Viksit Bharat @2047. He extended his good wishes for the success of this program.
At the last, Dr. Ajay Kumar (Assistant Professor, EED) gave a vote of thanks to the esteemed guests and all the audience present.
